A REMOTE TROPICAL ISLAND………AN AMERICAN TERRITORY

admin / February 6, 2018

Way out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean lies a tiny island, American Samoa.  It is a territory of the United States, which means that it has at least a few of the comforts of home.  Lots of people speak English, the currency is good old American dollars, and there is even a U.S. Post Office.  But, we did not think that we were at home!

I never saw a bus quite like this at home.  The inside is even more interesting.  We rode all the way around the island on this bus.  The seats looked like an old, old school bus that should have been put out of commission a long time ago.  The ceiling featured wood paneling.  Anyway, we had a perfectly comfortable three-hour ride around the island.

“What,” you may ask, “happens in American Samoa?”  That’s a good question.  For one thing, about forty percent of the canned tuna you eat comes from American Samoa.  It is a convenient stop for ships out in the Pacific.  The harbor is full of shipping containers.  The weather is typically tropical, and the people are typically friendly for this part of the world.
We saw a few interesting things.  The girls spotted bats hanging about in trees.  You don’t see that everywhere.

Having a great time, as usual.

Blessings,
Linda
