and a lot of other neat animals, too. We spent the morning at the Cleland Wildlife Park, in the hills above the (not-very-interesting) city of Adelaide. The animals were amazing! All of them were native Australian species, and the kangaroos were all hopping about free of any restraint. As you can see, you could feed and touch them at will. The girls could have spent te whole day just with the kangaroos.
We also took a shine to a poteroo, a cute little creature that had almost gone extinct until some wildlife parks began to work to save the species. This little guy was very docile, and happy to be fed. Kloee was sure he was starving. I doubt that, but he was certainly glad to let us feed him.
Of course, you shouldn’t go to Australia without visiting the famous koalas. Sometimes you can hold them, but not on the day we visited. The sensitive little souls were stressed from too much hot weather the week before, and so could not be disturbed. They were awfully fun to watch, anyway.
Oh, you wanted to know about the Devil? The Tassie Devil is very interesting. They are really a lot of trouble for Australians. They make a lot of noise, and they bite. They are natural scavengers, and they have strong jaws that can chomp down on almost anything. If they get under your house, they will scream all night, and they are hard to eradicate. It is no wonder they are called devils.
But no, we didn’t meet the real devil. That would not be fun at all.
Blessings,
Linda
Oscar is freeking out at these pictures. He is now looking at the French pictures on the wall and meowing. He prefers to go there.
Love,
Mom
Well, tell Oscar he doesn’t know what he’s missing. But, I guess a guy in a permanent tuxedo probably prefers fancier places!
Oh my goodness we love these pics!! 2nd grade would like Kloee to bring home a pet kangaroo for our class..Chubs and Tiger and DJ would really like him. Love and miss you girls!!
We love the photos of all the Australian animals. We decided that we would want to hang out with kangaroos all day also. Too bad you couldn’t hold the koalas.
We are wondering if the Tasmanian Devil makes as much noise as all the parrots we have around here? I bet our class makes even more noise!! All. Day. Long…(Heehee)
