While we were out in the Jordanian desert, we stopped to view the ruins of one of Herod’s palaces. This palace, called Mukawir, is believed to be the site of the beheading of John the Baptist. It is located high on a hill so Herod could see everything that was happening for miles around.
John the Baptist was probably kept in a cave like this while he was in prison.
