Yep, it’s still leaning. Our day in Pisa.

After our tour of the Uffizi, we caught the next train to PIsa.  It is only about an hour away, so we arrived quickly and were able to walk to our hotel.  We only took one wrong turn on the way, but that wasn’t too bad.  We didn’t have much luggage, and we got there eventually.  Then, it was off to see the Field of Miracles, the location of the famous tower and the slightly less famous cathedral and baptistry.  After verifying that the tower was still leaning, we purchased a ticket to go into the baptistry because that is actually the most interesting site to see (JMO).  Actually, the baptistry is interesting to see, but it is even more interesting to hear.  The acoustics of this round, domed building are amazing.  Every hour on the hour, a woman comes into the building, the doors are locked, and she shouts, “Silence!”  Then she sings harmony with herself.  The sound stays around so long that you can hear all the tones of a major chord at the same time, sung by one person.  Great for singing, but I don’t know how they would conduct a spoken service in there!

Miss you all.  See you soon!

Blessings,

Linda
