As it turned out, Cadiz was our last port in Europe. We had a planned port stop in Horta, Portugal. This island in the Atlantic is a common stop for transatlantic cruise ships because it allows one last opportunity to walk on solid land before the five (or so) days at sea needed to reach North (or South) America. It is a pretty place, and like the rest of Europe the have gelato, so we would have enjoyed it. But, this wasn’t like missing Florence, or Jerusalem, or Rome! We understand that the captain’s decision to skip Horta was for our comfort and safety. There was a big storm in the Atlantic, and our wise captain decided to navigate around it. That required taking a southerly course and missing Horta. Even as we were missing the storm, we still had two days of “bouncy” seas. We didn’t get sick, but others did. It was one more adventure for us. Seven days at sea gave us lots of time for school, too! Mixed opinions on that.
Anyway, we did eventually reach Hamilton, Bermuda. That is the Pacific Princess’ home port. We hope she enjoyed being home for the day. We sure liked her home. Hamilton is like Newport Beach and Cape Cod put together. There a beautiful shops and nice beaches. The weather was lovely, and we enjoyed our day, just walking, and shopping and hanging out. The girls enjoyed some time in a beautiful park, too.
Blessings,
Linda
