Venice – historic, romantic, beautiful, and incredibly crowded

admin / April 4, 2018

Our day in Venice began with a gondola ride, per the girls’ request.  The canals of Venice are the most peaceful part of the city by far.  As we navigated the narrow “streets”, I was overcome by the tranquility of the experience.  Even sailing the Grand Canal on a gondola seems relaxing, somehow, as all kinds of larger vessels sail by.  A gondola ride is a very special, enchanting experience.  I’m glad the girls asked us for this treat, because we arranged it just for them.

After the lovely gondola experience, we realized that we had not come to Venice on a quiet day.  It was Easter Monday, so many people were out of school and off of work.  The place was as crowded as Disneyland on Saturday!  We still got to see the iconic San Marco square, and walk around some of the narrow pedestrian streets.  Charles found two ties with the Venetian insignia of St. Mark on them that he will enjoy, and we had a nice lunch in a restaurant by the Rialto Bridge.  Venice is beautiful, but it was a crazy day.  I love small towns.

  1. I’ll never forget my gondola ride when my dad took us to Venice and St Mark’s Square when I was 12. Very special! Enjoy!
    God bless!

    1. Yes, the gondola ride was the highlight of Venice for Camden and Kloee; they picked this activity. And I must say, as Linda noted, except for a quiet lunch this was the only peaceful time that
we spent in this wonderful city. If it had been up to me, we wouldn’t have gone; so I’m glad the girls prevailed!
